This announcement was made on Wednesday, August 17. Colorado Governor Jared Polis and Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock announced the news. The announcement was made at a breakfast hosted by Governor Polis for the Colorado Latin American Consuls and Caribbean Consuls.Secretary of State Antony Blinken made an announcement on behalf of the Biden-Harris Administration that the Cities Summit would be held on the evening of June 7th, the day before the Ninth Summit of the Americas which was held in Los Angeles from June 8-10.The Cities Summit will encourage regional cooperation by bringing together sub-national leaders across the Western Hemisphere, as well as diverse and inclusive representatives from government, civil society and business, along with youth, culture, the arts and indigenous groups.Together, they will discuss the agenda that national leaders adopted at the Ninth Summit of Los Angeles. They will also consider the best way to make it relevant to citizens on a local and regional level. The agenda includes strengthening democracy and the public health sector, fostering clean-energy transitions, addressing environmental challenges, increasing the access to essential digital technologies, assuring the safety and dignity for all migrants, and fighting the spread of disinformation.Leaders from the city and community will be meeting throughout the week, with official events beginning on April 26. The events will include plenary session, stakeholder roundtables and expert panels, as well as networking sessions, commercial engagements and public outreach activities.Denver and Colorado are the epitome of innovation at the city and state level.
